As mesmerizing as a mystery novel, this memoir relates with brutal honesty how the best-laid plans and most heartfelt wishes can go astray when the role of caregiver proves to be overwhelming. Hayton's courage in admitting her mistakes (including not recognizing a bedsore that almost kills her mother) is commendable, as is her emotional breakdown when her mother's dementia gets unbearable. The book is a cautionary tale for those who think they can be a compassionate caregiver regardless of circumstances, and will make you think twice about choosing a long term care facility instead -- where your loved one may be safer and you may definitely be saner.
Excellent story from a caregiver's point of view. It was sad, funny and very enlightening. I just might have to read it again!
Just finished reading the book if You Love Me Kill Me by Pauline Hayton.
I thought it was an excellent book and would highly recommend it to anyone who has
ever had to take care of their parents.
Parts of the book had me in stitches while other parts had me really choked up.
A real insight in to having to deal with ones parents as they grow old.

Having cared for some elderly relatives, I was interested in Ms. Hayton's experiences. Though sometimes she was quite angry with her mother, it was understandable. I wish she had sought out others in her situation...it may have alleviated some of her stress. All in all, she was honest and unafraid to bare the truths, as many resentful feelings can occur when this happens in a family. Kudos to her for her bravery. Hoping writing it down brought her some peace.
Very thought provoking...could not put it down. I would recommend it to anyone with elderly parents. I think this was a true story, not just a novel...
Non-stop read !! An amazing book that I would like to recommend to everyone at any age. This Author wrote from the heart, and covered all the dilemmas, and problems that come with the end of life as we know it. I will share this with all my Family.
