I have just finished reading this book. It was very enjoyable if one can ever say that about any event that took so many lives. You are thrust into life as it was during that period and get to experience the war through the eyes of the hordes of young men who fought for freedom. The history is there but only in the right level of detail as this is more a story book, centering on the life of one member of a bomber crew; the training, the waiting, the raids behind enemy lines to the shooting down in France and his life thereafter which provides the real twist in this story.
